“The start of the year has come with its share of impact as cold weather continues to make an impression on a large portion of the country, and all around people are getting back into the swing of things. Many of us, just catching up with emails and projects left in 2014. Even some are mentally still on vacation, day dreaming of the holiday that never seems to be long enough. But, all things come to an end, except the Cornerstone Mixtape which will always be a consistent source of new music from some of the best DJs in the country. This month we show love to an OG in the world of indie music and radio. ‘Right On Time,’ this is Cornerstone Mixtape 180 with DJ Sucio Smash.

Born in Manhattan’s LES, the life long Knicks fan can be described in two words “good music.” Crediting a diverse musical background that included everything from conga playing to Hector Love salsa records, SUCE! had an immediate connection with music, and that would play a huge part of his life as the cultural impact of hip-hop was all around him. “That shit just spoke to me!” he says emphatically about the new genre. Little did he know this love affair would change the course of his life.

After years of hard work, and a little bit of luck, SUCE! would meet legendary radio DJ Bobbito Garcia. The mentor-apprentice relationship would prove impactful as years of running errands and co-producing the CM Fam-A-Lam radio show would transform their relationship into a strong friendship. A friendship so strong, that when Bobbito decided it was time to move on, it was SUCE! that would hold down the time slot previously held by his mentor, Stretch Armstrong, and Lord Sear. Today, SUCE! along with co-host Mazzi and Mr Len deliver their brand of music and commentary on WNYU’s Squeeze Radio. In addition to delivering one of New York’s best radio shows, Sucio Smash also serves as CEO of High Water Music where his label has put out works from DJ Spinna, DOOM & John Robinson, Fashawn (his 1st vinyl release), Sene and more; while introducing the world to and/or putting out music from Fresh Daily, Homeboy Sandman, BIC (Bitches Is Crazy), Willie Evans Jr., Chuk Le Garcon and more.

In this month’s Cornerstone Mixtape, SUCE uses the same approach and knowledge of music that has made him such an influential DJ in music today. Serving up records from a wide but balanced range of artists including Common, Roc Marciano, Barrel Brothers, The Roots, Action Bronson, and Nas. This month’s Music Meeting delivers some sure fire hits for the new year, from Joey Bada$$, Rico Love, and Audio Push. A mix like this is sure to be our best friend while we try to keep up with those fitness club resolutions, and if not, then it should definitely come in handy for all those Super Bowl parties. Until next month, stay hip, stay warm and remember the DJ is the Cornerstone of Hip-Hop.”

MIXTAPE: DJ QBERT – “JELLYFISH LAZERFACE”

Invisibl Skratch Piklz‘ own, the legendary Dj Qbert releases a new mixtape via Mass Appeal called “Jellyfish Lazerface”, which is an audio recap of his Extraterrestrium: The Guided Space Tour,” which ripped through the U.S. this past fall. The mixtape was described to us as “an odyssey of future bass music,” and features tracks from Mr. Carmack, El-P, LOUDPVCK. QBert also delivers a few surprises from his upcoming instrumental release, Extramentals Vol. 1.

NEW MUSIC: DJ EVIL DEE – “BROADCASTING LIVE” (MIXTAPE ALBUM)

1 half of the legendary Da Beatminerz, Dj Evil Dee drops a whole new mixtape album called “Broadcasting Live”. This that vintage grimey New York Hip Hop Boom Bap Sh*t! TAPEDECK TUESDAYS (AUDIO): M.E.D. – “BANG YA HEAD II” – Mixed by RHETTMATIC

Peace Everyone,

I apologized for missing Mixtape Mondays yesterday, so I’m making it up today for Tapedeck Tuesdays (11/18/14).

In honor of my brothers J.Rocc’s & MED’s (Axel F) new album “Theme Music” that’s coming out this next Tuesday (11/25/14), I figured I post up a special mix that I did for MED & Stones Throw back in 2009. The mix is called “Bang Ya Head” part 2 (I don’t know who did part 1, you gotta ask MED that…lol). The mix at that time featured some unreleased gems along with some production from Just Blaze, Dj Khalil, Dj Babu, Madlib, & myself. Enjoy this semi-flashbacl mix & make sure you go cop the J.Rocc & MED aka Axel F album “Theme Music” on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 on Bang Ya Head Entertainment.
