NEW MUSIC: HANNI EL KHATIB x GZA – “MOONLIGHT” (REMIX)

Our good friends at Innovative Leisure just released a Hanni El Khatib remix of “Moonlight” featuring Wu-Tang Clan‘s very own The Gza aka The Genius, courtesy of Fader Magazine. Now you’re wondering ‘who is Hanni El Khatib?’. Hanni is one of the dopest progressive rock artists out right now & is a premiere artist on the Innovative Leisure music label.

“What would it sound like if RZA got in the studio with Iggy Pop and Tom Waits?” he asks. “I don’t know! That was my approach on everything.” HANNI EL KHATIB

That’s why Hanni El Khatib’s forthcoming album ‘Moonlight’ (Jan 20th Release Date) starts with a song that sounds like a Mobb Deep beat under a Suicide-style synth drone and ends with an ESG-meets-LCD Soundsystem gone italo-disco song about life and death. That’s why it collides crushing crate-digger drumbeats that’d be right at home on a Can LP or an Eddie Bo 45 with bleeding distorto guitar, bent and broken barroom piano and hallucinatory analog flourishes.

To complete the circle, El Khatib a life-long Wu Tang fan got asked to go into the studio for an upcoming project with his heroes and while in the studio with the legendary GZA, the Genius connected instantly to El Khatib’s ‘Moonlight’ track and laced a verse.

Hanni’s album “Moonlight” drops on Jan 20th on Innovative Leisure.  Shoutouts to Jamie, Scotty, Lambo, Nate, & the rest of the crew!

NEW MUSIC: SYLVAN ESSO – “COFFEE” (J.ROCC REMIX)

The Funky President remixes a Sylvan Esso song called “Coffee” from their self-titled album that came out this year. He trades in Nick Sanborn’s sweeping synths for some wet newspaper beats that give the track more of an edge, but leaves Amelia Meath’s gorgeous vocals largely untouched. It’s a solid remix of a really great track, and you can listen to it below.
